Ann Druyan: Science and Religion

Ann Druyan, the widow of Carl Sagan, was recently interviewed on the Point of Inquiry podcast. She talked a bit about her thoughts on the intersection of science and religion. I thought this might be relevant to any discussion of science we have in the near future.

The podcast can be found here.

Michael Persinger

From the feedback page:

I am writing to suggest a podcast that I think that you and the Apologia discussants may find thought provoking. It is a lecture by Michael Persinger, a behavioral neuroscientist. His lecture topic might be termed "neurotheology." The lecture is part of the TV Ontario Big Ideas program and can be downloaded on iTunes (subscribe to Big Ideas) or at the the TV Ontario site. Persinger presents some experiments and data from the field of neuroscience that seem to go a long way toward providing a natural explanation of certain kinds of subjective religious experiences. I hope that you have time to listen to it. warm regards, Julian

12 Points That Show Christianity is True

Kevin has come up with a new syllabus for his "Faith and Reason" class that I think is a pretty good source of topics for us to consider in the discussion.
  1. Truth About Reality Is Knowable
  2. The Opposite Of True Is False
  3. It Is True That The Theistic God Exists
  4. If God Exists Then Miracles Are Possible
  5. Miracles Can Be Used To Confirm A Message From God
  6. The New Testament Is Historically Reliable
  7. The New Testament Says Jesus Claimed To Be God
  8. Jesus' Claim To Be God Was Miraculously Confirmed
  9. Therefore It Is True That Jesus Is God
  10. Whatever Jesus (Who Is God) Teaches Is True
  11. Jesus Taught That The Bible Is The Word Of God
  12. Therefore, It Is True That The Bible Is The Word Of God, And Anything Opposed To It Is False.
Obviously the first point is where our discussion is leading anyway. We've already discussed miracles to a certain extent in our most recent discussion, but the Bible and Jesus are going to be ripe for discussion soon.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

Sam Harris on "The Language of God"

We discussed Sam Harris on our first show. This is a link to his recent [scathing] review of Francis Collins' new book, "The Language of God".
This is a place where those who are participating in the Apologia podcast discussion can post information and links that may be of interest to us all.
